How Can a Pregnancy Dietitian Support You?

Let’s start with what a pregnancy dietitian does not do

A pregnancy dietitian isn’t here to give you a list of “good” and “bad” foods, tell you what you can never eat again, or make you feel guilty about your choices. That’s not my approach. I’m here to help you understand nutrition, work through challenges, and find an approach that feels realistic to you.

We understand what your body needs

Registered Dietitians (RDs) have extensive education and hands-on training in nutrition, food, and the human body. Before becoming an RD, we complete required education, supervised practice, and a standardized registration exam.

We understand the science and complexity of the human body. We understand how foods break down and provide energy, and how important nutrients are to your health and well-being.

But we also understand that you are a unique person with unique nutritional needs. A dietitian can work with you to understand what you need to nourish your body (and your growing baby, too!).

We help with the everyday challenges of pregnancy

A little peek inside! My hope is for you to feel welcome and comfortable.

Pregnancy is definitely a transformative season of life. It’s amazing and remarkable how a woman’s body can nourish and grow a whole person from scratch.

So many changes naturally bring up questions or challenges. And well, everyone eats.

This is where a dietitian can help. We can help you navigate the everyday food challenges that may come with pregnancy, including nausea, vomiting, food aversions, food cravings, heartburn, and fatigue.

Although we don’t have a magic wand to make these symptoms disappear, we can help you find practical ways to nourish yourself through them.

We help make nutrition fit your life

It’s so important that eating well feels satisfying, attainable, and sustainable. A dietitian can take your daily life, schedule, preferences, and circumstances into consideration and help you find ways to nourish yourself that actually work for you.

I say all the time, “Nutritious food is only good for you if you eat it.”

It doesn’t matter if a bag of spinach in your fridge has great nutrients if you never eat it.

A dietitian can help you find delicious, easy, and realistic ways to incorporate foods that nourish your body while still enjoying the foods you’re eating.

We can help you feel more confident around food

At times, all the information (and misinformation) online can feel overwhelming.

A dietitian can help you feel more confident in the food choices you’re making for yourself and your baby. Instead of constantly wondering whether you’re doing it “right,” you can have a better understanding of what your body needs and feel more at ease with the choices you’re making.

When might someone see a pregnancy dietitian?

If you’re experiencing uncertainty around what to eat during pregnancy, how much to eat, or even when to eat, you could benefit from the support of a pregnancy dietitian.

You may also benefit from nutrition support if you’re experiencing challenges such as:

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Food aversions or cravings

  • Heartburn or reflux

  • Changes in appetite

  • Fatigue

  • Feeling overwhelmed by pregnancy nutrition information

  • Difficulty finding meals and snacks that feel realistic and satisfying

And remember, you don’t have to have a specific diagnosis or nutrition problem to benefit from support. Sometimes you simply want reassurance, guidance, and a place to feel heard and ask your questions.

What working with me actually looks like

Your space to feel supported right here in Dayton!

I love supporting women as they navigate the nutrition questions and challenges that can arise during these seasons of life.

My approach is less about restriction and more about adding in foods and finding realistic ways to nourish yourself.

We would first sit down together so I can learn more about you, your background with food, your health history, your concerns, and your goals. From there, we’ll create a plan to support you through your pregnancy journey.

And my support doesn’t have to begin or end with pregnancy. I work with women throughout preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum.

Remember, you don’t have to figure it out alone. If you’re looking for individualized nutrition support in the Dayton, Ohio area, I’d love the opportunity to support you.
